Wadena County Food Shelf Programs
Menahga: The Menahga Food Shelf is open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. This food shelf is located in the Alternative Learning Center in Menahga. Clients for the Menahga Food Shelf must have a referral either from a pastor, Community Action or Social Services. Clients need a referral for each visit and may visit once per calender month. Requirements are to bring a current form of identification ( ID ) and a current utility bill. The Menahga Food Shelf phone number is 564-6143.
Sebeka: Services the Sebeka School District. Emergency food shelf visits done on referral basis from county agencies, churches, or school. Referrals accepted through Wadena County Social Services, Todd Wadena Community Action Council, or on a walk in as need basis. Applicant will be served 1 time per month, with 4 full weeks between food shelf visits. Site applications are done at the Sebeka Food Shelf before food is given to applicant. Proof of identification or photo ID along with a current utility bill. Staples: Food Shelf Services are available at 402 Wisconsin Avenue SE in Staples. There is no telephone to call, in person visitation only. Allowed one visitation per month to obtain assistance. Must bring proof of residence such as a drivers license, photo ID, or utility bill. Open Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the last Thursday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wadena: The Wadena Food Shelf is open on Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.to 12:00 Noon, and the 2nd & 4th Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The food shelf is located at 205 Aldrich Avenue SE, there are signs posted. Requirements are to be a resident of the Wadena School District and to have a photo ID. This is an emergency food shelf. Recipients may visit once during a month or by special request if a special need occurs.
Wadena County Humane Society: The Wadena County Humane Society has a Food Shelf for Pets Program. Food is distributed from the Wadena County Humane Society Shelter, 310 Ash Avenue NW, Wadena, MN 56482. The Wadena County Humane Society understands that people having trouble feeding themselves or families in times of emergency often need help for the family pet(s) as well. Food is available for emergency needs to help feed your family dog or cat. Occasionally there are other species foods or animal care materials available. The Food Shelf for Pets Program is limited to the donations of pet foods received. Donations may be limited in size due to supply and demand issues. Recipients are required to fill out an application for each visit. Visits are limited as this is an emergency pet food shelf program. The pet food shelf program is available during the shelters open hours.
